Although April 1st is April Fool's Day, April first also begins a much more serious event. April is Autism Awareness Month. Something which is certainly not a joke, especially for my family.
My 5 1/2 year old son is Autistic, so this cause is very close to my heart.
Even if my son was not effected by this, Autism affects a staggering 1 in 88 children. This is a growing epidemic, and even worse, we have no answers as to what causes it.
And as widespread as this is unfortunately becoming, sadly, many people are still unaware of what autism is really about. There is far to many judgements and assumptions where Autism is concerned.
That is why organizations that try find answers to bring awareness to this condition are so very important. Autism Speaks is one of the biggest organizations out there for Autism advocacy.
I love to support such causes whenever possible, but my favorite way is buy purchasing products where part of the proceeds go to the charity(this is true of any cause).
So as soon as I saw the Autism Speaks Bear from Build-A-Bear, I knew that I had to get it.
This bear is so adorable. Not only is he the perfect shade of blue(for Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness), but he also has the super cute and colorful puzzle piece pattern on the feet.
Plus he has a darling embroidered Puzzle Piece on his chest.
I was captivated by it so much that I almost did not want to let my son have it. This really is a precious bear.
I knew that my son would LOVE is just as much as I do.
(sorry for the squinty eyes, that almost always happens when he takes pictures.)
He smiled as soon as he saw it. He kept Saying, "Bobby's Bear". He played with it all day. He even slept with it(he never usually sleeps with anything.
I love that he loves it so much. It melted my heart to see him having so much fun.
The only "issue" I ran into, is that I also have an 18 month old daughter, and she wanted this bear too,, but he surely wasn't wanting to share. So if you have more than one kiddo, I suggest more than one.
In fact, I suggest more than one anyway. It is a really good price(in my opinion), $1 from each bear goes to Autism Speaks, and he is so adorable, that you will have a hard time letting go.
Even better, you can also dress up this fabulous bear, or any bear with an awesome Autism Speaks Tee.
And there are 3 other bears versions of this bear, already dressed. One even has a bow and a skirt(and the Autism Speaks Tee), so it would be ideal for little girls. I have to get one of those tees for my son's bear, and I really want one of the Sweet & Stylish Autism Speaks Bears(girl) for my daughter.
No matter who you know that is affected by Autism, one of these darling Autism Speaks Bears would be so perfect for them.
Even if you do not personally know someone, this is still a wonderful bear, and it would make a great donation gift. Take it to a local school, church, shelter, hospital, wherever. The sad truth is, there will be at least one person affected by autism at any of these places.
Since a donation goes to Autism Speaks with the purchase of the bear, it would really be like dual giving. At this price, it is such great value.
If you want one of these precious bears, I urge you to act fast. They are only available while supplies last. I know these will go fast. Get yours now.
Since I really want you to experience this sweet bear, Build-A-Bear and I are hosting giveaway. One winner will receive a $25 Build-A-Bear Gift Card. Enter below. Good luck.
